Monitoring a live session

Read the live telescope status screen: status badges, pointing, exposure progress, and sky charts.

The telescope status screen gives you a real-time view of what the telescope is doing — from its pointing position to current exposure progress and live planning charts. Here's how to read every part of it.

How to access

  1. Open the telescope

Select the telescope you want from the Dashboard.

  2. Go to Status

Click Status in the top navigation bar. It's the default view when you open a telescope.

Reading the status badge

The same status badge appears in two places: next to each telescope on the dashboard, and in the header of a telescope's status page. Click through the states below to see both. Note that the dashboard only shows whether a telescope is In Use — the specific action (Imaging, Slewing, Focusing) and the target appear on the status page.

What the status screen shows

When the telescope is active, every field updates in real time. Below is a live replica of the status panels mid-session — watch the exposure fill, the plan advance, and the target drift down the sky:

Each panel, field by field:

Pointing

FieldDescription
RARight Ascension — the target's east-west position in the sky.
DECDeclination — the target's north-south position in the sky.
AltitudeCurrent angle above the horizon, in degrees.
AzimuthCurrent compass bearing of the telescope.

Current exposure

FieldDescription
FilterThe filter currently in use (e.g. Luminance, Red, Green, Blue).
DurationLength of the current exposure, in seconds.
BinningPixel binning setting (e.g. 1×1, 2×2).
ProgressA progress bar showing elapsed time within the current exposure.

Imaging plan

FieldDescription
ExposuresCount of completed exposures vs. total planned.
Exposure ElapsedTotal imaging time completed so far.
Exposure RemainingEstimated time left in the current plan.
Plan ProgressOverall progress bar for the entire observation plan.

Last image

A live preview of the most recently captured frame. It updates after each exposure.

Note

When the telescope is offline or idle, the pointing and exposure fields display dashes — they only carry meaningful values while a session is actively running.

Target Altitude & Sky Track

The bottom of the status screen shows two live planning charts. Both update in real time and mark the telescope's current pointing position as a dot on the graph.

  • Target Altitude — the target's altitude arc through the night. Use it to see whether the object is rising or descending, and how much imaging time remains before it drops below the horizon limit.

  • Sky Track — the arc the target travels across the sky. The dot marks the current position with live altitude and azimuth. Hover the arc to read values at any point in the night.
